About Synchronized Swimmers
About Synchronized Swimmers
There is a particular grace that belongs to two people moving together — not perfectly, not mechanically, but with the easy, practised synchrony of those who know each other well enough to share a rhythm without thinking about it. Synchronized Swimmers by Sharyn Bursic captures that grace with a warmth and a compositional elegance that is quietly, completely beautiful.
Two women rise from a vivid blue-green sea, arms lifted overhead in mirror movement, their palms facing forward, their fingers spread in the characteristic gesture of the synchronised swimmer at the surface. They stand close together, their bodies emerging from the water in similar postures that are not quite identical — one slightly taller, one slightly more turned, the variation between them the variation between two people who are in harmony rather than in unison. Both have auburn-red hair in soft bobs that frame their faces with warmth and simplicity. Both have the pale, simplified, oval faces that are Sharyn Bursic’s signature — blue eyes, pink-flushed cheeks, mouths held in composed, slightly dreaming expressions. They look out at the viewer with the focused, inward calm of athletes in the middle of something that requires complete attention.
Behind them, the background is a deep, enveloping black — rich and velvety, the black of a night pool or an indoor swimming hall, a darkness against which the pale skin of the figures and the vivid blue of the water glow with extraordinary presence. Sharyn Bursic uses black backgrounds with great painterly intelligence, and here the darkness creates a stage that is simultaneously theatrical and intimate — a space that feels both large and close, both public and private. The upper half of the composition is pure black, giving the raised arms somewhere to reach toward, a height to aspire to.
The colour palette is one of Bursic’s most striking. The deep black of the background, the vivid blue-green of the water, the warm auburn of the hair, and the pale luminosity of the skin form a relationship of complementary contrast that gives the composition its extraordinary visual clarity and warmth. The blue of the water — layered and slightly textured, the blue of real water seen from above — anchors the lower half of the image in something physically present and alive.
Synchronized Swimmers works beautifully in a living room, where its combination of graphic boldness and quiet human warmth makes it a genuinely compelling focal point. In a bedroom, the soft palette and the figures’ composed, meditative expressions create an atmosphere of calm and considered beauty. In a bathroom, the subject matter is a natural fit — two swimmers, water, the pleasure of being in motion and at rest at the same time. It is also a perfect gift for anyone who swims, or dances, or values the particular joy of doing something beautiful in company. Sharyn Bursic’s palette pairs beautifully with deep navy, warm white, terracotta, and any interior that welcomes both warmth and graphic confidence.
Each print is produced on premium matte paper, which captures the full painterly richness of Sharyn Bursic’s surface. The black background is deep and velvety, the blue water is vivid and layered, and the figures’ faces are rendered with the quiet expressiveness and painterly warmth that make Bursic’s work so immediately affecting. The non-reflective finish gives the print a quality that is genuinely close to the original painting.
Synchronized Swimmers is available in six sizes: A4, 30x40, 40x50, 50x70, 70x100 and 100x140 cm. In smaller formats, the intimacy of the two figures and the warmth of their shared posture make it a quietly beautiful and characterful addition to any gallery wall. In larger sizes, the bold contrast of black and blue fills the wall with real visual authority, and the arms reach upward with a grace and a presence that is genuinely moving.
For framing, we recommend a slim black or dark wood frame to echo the depth of the background and give the print a cohesive, gallery-quality finish. A natural oak frame also works beautifully, adding warmth and a softening contrast to the dark background without diminishing the composition’s graphic strength.
Synchronized Swimmers by Sharyn Bursic is a portrait of shared movement — of the quiet, sustaining pleasure of doing something beautiful alongside someone else. It is art that makes a room feel more alive, and more human, simply by being in it.
Tips for hanging your poster
Tips for hanging your poster
How to hang your poster – simple and stylish tips
Getting a poster to hang perfectly is all about the small details. Start by choosing the right height — as a general rule, the center of the poster should sit around 145–155 cm (57–61 inches) from the floor, placing it naturally at eye level. Pick a frame that complements both the artwork and the room, and take a moment to measure so everything hangs straight.
Consider the lighting too: natural light makes colours appear vibrant, but avoid direct sunlight to keep the print looking beautiful for years. If you're hanging multiple posters together, begin from the center and keep the spacing consistent for a clean, balanced look.
It's the little adjustments that make all the difference — creating a refined and well-composed result.
Hang your poster with no measuring stress
Use painter's tape for a quick and perfectly straight result:
- Hold your frame against the wall where you want it.
- Place a strip of painter's tape along the top edge of the frame.
- Mark exactly where the nail or screw should go.
- Remove the tape and stick it onto the wall — perfectly level.
- Hammer the nail into the marked spot.
- Remove the tape and hang your poster.
A simple method for a clean, perfectly aligned poster — every time.
